From Garment Worker to Sewing Entrepreneur
I’ve been building businesses since I was 15.
My first job was in an internet café. I wanted to earn my own money — to buy my school supplies, go out with friends, and help at home. I come from a hardworking family in Colombia, where my mum raised three children while carrying the weight of debts and responsibilities with incredible strength.
Later, I went to university to study Industrial Design. It wasn’t a dream decision — it was a possible one. At that time, Fashion Design wasn’t seen as a “serious” career, just short courses. So I worked and studied at the same time, like many women who simply do what it takes to move forward.
But something inside me kept calling. When I started working as a garment operator in manufacturing companies, I understood what truly drove me: creating with my hands. I worked in jeans workshops, uniform production, workwear and casualwear factories. Every stitch taught me discipline, technique and reality. Nothing was improvised.
My managers recognised my commitment and encouraged me to formally study what I truly loved. That’s when I decided to study Fashion Design — working and paying for my education myself.
That is how Kairaba was born: my brand, my process and my purpose. Since then, I have dedicated my life to sewing, pattern making and garment construction, teaching from real experience. I’ve worked in academies, delivered private lessons and supported many women — beginners like you — to learn from home, create garments that fit properly, and understand that sewing can also become a source of income.
Today, through my courses, digital patterns and educational content, I share what life has taught me:
